 Hearts Across Generations:

Warmth and Care on the Double Ninth Festival

WFLPS International Department Students Visit Shouyi Fang Community to Respect the Elderly

The autumn scenery is radiant, and osmanthus blossoms fragrance the air. As the Double Ninth Festival approached, the International Section of Shi Wai Primary School launched a heartwarming initiative with the theme of "Filial Piety and Respect for the Elderly," extending warmth from the campus to the community. During a guidance lesson, all teachers and students listened to a proposal about caring for the elderly.

Four key phrases –

"Heartfelt Companionship,"

"Taking Initiative to Share Burdens,"

"Bridging the Digital Divide," and

"Cultivating the Virtue of Respecting the Elderly" –

were not just concrete expressions of "Caring and Responsibility" but also sowed the seeds of action in the children's hearts.

Meanwhile, under the organization of the Chinese Language Group, the fourth and fifth-grade students picked up their brushes to practice calligraphy early on. They poured their sincere blessings into their ink strokes, composing a solemn yet warm prelude to this compassionate practice.

On the day of the Double Ninth Festival, teachers, students, and parent representatives hand in hand entered the Shouyi Fang Community. The event commenced with the clear voices of the young hosts, Wu Jiang and Chen Ruojia. Fifth-grader Hu Wanchi's heartfelt rendition of the song "As Wish" was touching, while Chu Qianyu's "Growing Toward the Sun" sang of the hope of life. The children's moving songs warmed the hearts of the elderly present, evoking waves of warm applause.

The young reporters listened attentively to the stories shared by the grandparents. Their adorable questions evoked memories of the elders' own childhoods. Kind words exchanged and hands held tightly – the generational gap melted away within this warmth. These seemingly small gestures, ordinary as they may seem, filled the community with joy and laughter.

As a long-standing tradition of the International Section, this event is far more than a festive greeting; it is a vivid practical lesson in "Love and Responsibility." The children learned about commitment through giving and understood dedication through companionship. One grandmother emotionally said, "Thank you to the children of Shi Wai Primary School for coming to the community every year to spend the Double Ninth Festival with us seniors. I hope the children study well. Today, I feel incredibly happy!" This happiness stems from genuine interaction, from the warm bridge built through the collaboration of family, school, and community, and from every beautiful heart willing to pass on light.

Sparks of kindness unite to form a torch, guiding actions toward goodness. This Double Ninth Festival, the children of the International Section embodied the profound meaning of the adage, 'Respect the elderly in your own family and extend this to the elderly in other families.' They also allowed the seeds of "Well-being" to cycle and grow through giving and receiving. This is truly the most touching form of education.
