Stepping Beyond the Classroom, Discovering the Joy of Movement | A Vibrant Wellbeing Festival Experience for Grade 2 Students of the International Division
As spring breathes warmth into the air and energy comes alive across the campus, the International Division of Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School continues to nurture holistic development by enriching student experiences and embracing the National Physical Health Standards for Primary and Secondary School Students. Through meaningful engagement in sport, students are encouraged not only to strengthen their bodies, but also to grow in confidence, resilience, and joy.
As part of the Wellbeing Festival, Year 2 students stepped beyond the school grounds and into the Tianlin Youth Sports Center in Xuhui District, Shanghai. There, they embarked on an exciting and immersive journey, exploring the unique character of fencing, tennis, and indoor parkour.
Guided by teachers and professional coaches, students rotated through each activity in small groups, filling the space with laughter, curiosity, and enthusiasm.
In the fencing zone, students donned protective gear and stepped into the role of “little swordsmen”. Under the coaches’ guidance, they learned essential techniques such as stance, footwork, and lunging. In moments of focused stillness and dynamic exchange, they experienced both the elegance and discipline of the sport. Through each bout, they developed concentration and composure, learned to respect rules and outcomes, and strengthened their perseverance.
In the indoor parkour zone, students embraced challenge with growing confidence. Supported by coaches, they practiced climbing, jumping, and rolling, gradually overcoming hesitation and extending their limits. Each successful movement was met with cheers of encouragement, as students built coordination, agility, and courage. More importantly, they discovered the value of persistence and the excitement of pushing beyond what once felt difficult.
The tennis zone offered a joyful blend of movement and collaboration. With rackets in hand, students explored the fundamentals of serving and striking, developing hand-eye coordination and physical control. Through cooperation and encouragement, they not only built foundational skills, but also experienced the power of teamwork, friendship, and shared success.
This off-campus experience brought a dynamic dimension to the Wellbeing Festival, transforming sport into a meaningful context for growth. By stepping beyond the classroom, students deepened their understanding of movement, strengthened their physical well-being, and developed essential life skills.
May every child continue to grow through movement, shine with confidence, and carry the spirit of sport with them—today and into the future.
