Exploring Earth’s Secrets: Highlights from the Year 2 'Earth Changes' UOI Mini Exhibition

(Earth changes affect all living things and the environment),展开了深入的探究。

On May 21st, the school gym was transformed into a lively hub of Earth science exploration. Our young inquirers from Year 2 held their UOI Mini Exhibition on “Earth Changes.”

Over the past few weeks, students have been exploring their central idea: Earth changes affect all living things and the environment.

To clearly present what they had learned and reflected on, students from P2A and P2B divided the exhibition area into three core sections.

(First Stop: Different types of changes to the Earth)

Earth changes occur at different rhythms and in different ways.

In the “Slow Changes” zone, students from P2B shared their discoveries about Weathering and Water Erosion. Meanwhile, the P2A team took visitors on a journey deep beneath the Earth’s surface, showcasing the Earth’s Layers and the Slow Change Cycle that unfolds over long periods of time.

Over in the “Fast Changes” zone, the atmosphere became intense and dramatic. Volcanoes, storms, tsunamis, landslides, tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods took center stage one after another. Through research and inspiration from the Wonder Wall, our young learners developed a deeper understanding of the characteristics and patterns of these powerful natural phenomena.

(Second Stop: Reasons & Connections)

After learning about these phenomena, students became even more curious about the reasons behind them: Why does the Earth change? And how do living things respond when natural disasters occur?

In the “Effects” zone, students from P2B focused on how humans adapt and helping one another after disasters.

To make abstract concepts more concrete, each group created detailed experimental models by hand. Even more impressively, some teams became “little directors” and screened collaborative safety guide videos about extreme weather events, sharing practical disaster prevention and emergency response knowledge with visitors.

(Third Stop: Protecting Our Planet Together

The most heartwarming part of the exhibition was undoubtedly the “Our Pledges” area. We invited all visiting teachers, parents, and students to carefully read our four pledges and sign their names in support:

  1. Protect the Soil: Plant more greenery, reduce paper      waste, and help prevent soil erosion.

  2. Be Prepared at Home: Work with your family to identify a      safe emergency spot at home and share disaster preparedness knowledge.

  3. Watch the Animals: Pay attention to unusual animal      behavior, as animals often sense changes in the Earth before humans do.

  4. Share What You’ve Learned: Become a knowledge ambassador and      share safety facts about volcanoes or Earth’s layers with at least three      people.

Seeing the wall filled with signatures gave us a deep sense of responsibility and achievement as young global citizens.

This one-day showcase was the culmination of the hard work and curiosity of the entire second year level — students and teachers alike. From being full of questions at the very beginning, to confidently explaining their findings face-to-face with visiting community members today — we have not only learned scientific knowledge, but also come to understand the deep connection between life and nature.

Thank you to all the parents and teachers who came to cheer us on. We'll see you on our next inquiry adventure!

This one-day showcase was the culmination of the curiosity, inquiry, and hard work of the entire Year 2 community — students and teachers alike. From beginning with countless questions to confidently explaining findings face-to-face with visiting community members, students not only gained scientific knowledge, but also developed a deeper understanding of the close connection between life and nature.

Thank you to all the students, parents and teachers who came to support and encourage the Year 2 students. We look forward to seeing everyone again on our next inquiry adventure!
