Rooted in China, Embracing the World
WFLPS ID 2026 National Day Celebration
On September 30, the International Division of WFLPS held a National Day celebration under the theme “Rooted in China, Embracing the World.” Bringing together an assembly, stories, art and a strong sense of connection to our country and culture, the celebration filled the campus with the vibrant colours of China. From the classroom corridors to the second-floor gallery, a festive atmosphere could be felt throughout the school.
Setting the Scene: Every Wall Tells a Story
Before the celebration began, our Parent Committee worked together with teachers and students to decorate the classroom corridors and create a warm and festive atmosphere across the campus.
The Show Space gallery was designed and arranged by Cian’s father from Year 1. The school collected 21 student photographs showing off “The Beauty of China.” The Chinese Language Department also organised each year level to create calligraphy works during class, which were displayed alongside the photographs.
Mountains and rivers, ancient architecture, food and culture — through their camera lenses and calligraphy brushes, students captured their deep affection for China.
Assembly: Looking Back and Moving Forward Under the National Flag
As small national flags waved throughout the gymnasium, the students’ excitement filled the room. The short video “Chinese Civilization” gently unfolded a sweeping journey through 5,000 years of Chinese history. Across the long course of Chinese civilisation, generations have carried forward a spirit of gentleness and resilience — qualities deeply woven into the Chinese character.
The student performances then brought Chinese culture to life. Ballet, guzheng, pipa and classical dance filled the stage with grace and energy. Through the students’ performances, traditional arts became something living and vibrant. The audience responded with warm applause, and some students could not help but sway along with the music.
The celebration also included the CEO ceremony, recognising our student leaders, followed by a birthday celebration for our September birthday students.
Finally, the parents’ sanhuban performance, “China in Mythology,” brought the celebration to a lively close. As the gongs and drums began, the children joined in with laughter and clapping, cheering along with the rhythm. In this lively performance, parents shared some of China’s oldest stories and offered their most heartfelt wishes for the children. It was a wonderful celebration of Chinese culture, community and connection.
Story Moms: Meeting China Through Stories
After the assembly, our Story Moms came into the classrooms and.brought Chinese stories to life.
From “The Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate” and “China at the Dining Table” to “Wu Song Fights the Tiger”and “The Dunhuang Spirit Dog,” each story offered a different window into Chinese culture.
Behind each storytelling sessions was careful preparation. The Story Moms worked together to plan their lessons, design learning tasks, prepare multimedia resources and rehearse their storytelling performances. They brought stories of Cangjie creating Chinese characters, Sun Wukong’s three battles with the White Bone Demon and many other moments from Chinese culture to life for the children.
There was spirit in these stories, and through listening, the children connected with their cultural roots.
Safety First: Reminders Before the Holiday
As the National Day holiday approached, homeroom teachers used class meetings to give students important reminders about holiday safety. From travel and traffic safety to everyday routines, these reminders helped students prepare for a safe and happy holiday.
Rooted in China, Embracing the World
Under the national flag, we looked back at history. Through stories, art and shared experiences, we planted seeds of confidence and connection.
Rooted in China, Embracing the World.
May our students carry their roots with them as they embrace the world, pursue their dreams and grow into young who are rooted, purposeful and ready to take responsibility.
